Dear Valued Chamber Members and Friends,
Thanksgiving is a time for feasts, families, friends and football games.  Most importantly, Thanksgiving is the time to stop and think for a minute about all of the things we are thankful for.  The staff members of the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau are especially thankful for the continued support of our members, volunteers and community!  Your contributions – monetary, in-kind and volunteer time help us to accomplish many projects, programs and events for the betterment of our entire community….we can’t thank you enough!
We hope that you take time to relax and enjoy family and friends this Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,

Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau Staff

Shop With Us On Small BusinessSaturday – November 30th

Shop Small

Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday sits Small BusinessSaturday®, a day dedicated to helping small businesses and their communities.
The small, locally owned businesses in our community need our support.  And likewise, our community needs these businesses!
Some things to consider….
  • Small businesses contribute millions of dollars to local programs including our schools, ICARE, ESBCA, Salvation Army, IMACA, IMAH, 4H, FFA…you name it, these businesses are tirelessly supportive of our community!
  • A dollar spent in an independent locally-owned store is usually spent 6 to 15 times before it leaves the community. These dollars are used to make purchases from other local businesses and service providers, continuing to strengthen the economic base of the community.
  • Our one-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the distinctive character of this place. Where we shop, where we eat and have fun — all of it makes our community home.
  • Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally and also create more stable employment in small communities.
  • Sales Tax matters.  It’s not just what you buy, but where you buy it that counts! Sales tax collected locally helps to support many things we often take for granted – police & fire protection, parks & recreation programs, streets & sidewalks.  When you pay your sales tax at a store in the Owens Valley, you are doing your part to maintain many essential programs & services!

We at the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce are proud to take part in Small Business Saturday this year and we want to encourage you to Shop Small® with us on November 24th.

On Small Business Saturday, we are excited to offer 10% off all merchandise in our store.  We carry a nice selection of Bishop-themed items like hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, shot glasses and other great gifts.  We also carry calendars by several local artists and photographers, as well as local interest books and DVDs.

The Shop Small program was initiated by American Express a few years ago and it’s really gaining momentum.  We hope you’ll join in our efforts to support local commercethis Saturday and throughout the year.  Visit ShopSmall.com to learn about other ways to get involved and support your favorite small businesses.  Click here to see a list of Bishop Chamber Members.
