Wildland fire fighters in the Eastern Sierra responded to a small grass fire just north of Big Pine Wednesday afternoon. With a smoke column visible from the Bishop area, CDF called in back up crews from Mammoth and Lone Pine, but the fire was knocked down by Big Pine Volunteer Firefighters before most of the CDF crews arrived on scene.

The fire was mostly out and contained to 50×75 feet in size when Big Pine Fire left the scene and turned the operation over the CDF crews.
