Some residents of Mammoth Lakes have actually said that without Snowcreek Athletic Club, the town loses a great deal of its appeal. A couple of months ago, the Club appeared doomed. Today, the Club stands a good chance, depending on the outcome of private negotiations.snowcreek_ac.jpg

Mammoth Town Manager Rob Clark said that the Town Council agreed to negotiate with involved parties. Clark called this, "an extremely good sign for the Club." Manager Clark said that the Town's role would be to work on a transfer of density from the land under the Club to Dempsey's North Village property. That would mean no new buyer would want to tear down the Club and build condos.

Clark confirmed that Elliot Brainard, Mammoth architect, was listed as the prospective buyer of Snowcreek Athletic Club, possibly with other individuals. Brainard said he had no comment at this time.

Clark said it will take several months to work out all of the issues over the Club. He said Brainard will work with Linda Dempsey and the Town will work on transferring density. Manager Clark emphasized that the transfer of density will not increase PAOT for the Town.

As for the Athletic Club, at last word, owner Linda Dempsey had extended closure of the Club to the end of November. Rob Clark said he thinks all of the issues will be resolved before then.
