Christmas Tree Lighting in Independence

Saturday, this big, beautiful tree will be all lit up.

The public is invited to help usher in the holiday season by singing traditional Christmas carols and helping to light the Independence Community Christmas Tree on Saturday Dec. 1.

Those wishing to participate are being asked to gather at the Eastern California Museum starting at 4 p.m. Holiday treats and warm drinks will be served until the group is ready to stroll to the Pioneer Memorial Methodist Church. Caroling can break out at any time, and the historic church will be serenaded with classic Christmas songs, ranging from “Jingle Bells” to “Silent Night.” The group will then head over to Mary Austin Park and flip the switch that will illuminate the festive decorations gracing the park’s “Giant Tree.”

Everyone is then invited back to the Museum to warm up, have another cookie or hot chocolate, or just socialize.

The Tree Lighting event is sponsored by the Independence Civic Club and the Eastern California Museum. Call 760-878-0258.
