The Mono County District Attorneys Office has charged a Mammoth resident with aggravated assault after an incident that had been listed as an attempted murder.

Early in the morning February 1, Mammoth Police were called out to a home on Lupine Street after they received a cell phone call from a woman saying that her boyfriend was trying to kill her. Police say that the woman gave her first name before the line went dead.

In this tense situation, officers who responded to Lupine Street, reported that the address given by the woman on the cell phone did not exist. One Officer returned to the station and ran the cell phone number of the caller to get the callers full name which was run through the records management system at the MLPD giving the officers a better address.

Mammoth Police Lt. Jim Short reports that officers arrived on scene at the Lupine Street residence shared by 19 year old Francis Sullivan and his 22 year old girlfriend at roughly 1:25 in the morning. When officers shined a light through the window, they saw a man dragging a screaming woman into the bathroom, Lt. Short says.

The officers forced their way into the building and detained the suspect. Upon talking to the victim, officers report that the victim said that the two had been fighting when Sullivan grabbed her around the neck and threw her to the ground, where the suspect strangled the victim until she blacked out.

Police arrested Sullivan for attempted murder. At this time, Deputy Mono County District Attorney Todd Graham reports that Sullivan has been charged with aggravated assault with an enhancement for great bodily injury. If convicted, this could lead to 4 years for the aggravated assault, and 5 years for the great bodily injury, for a total of 9 years in prison.
