On February 8th a jogger found a deceased man while running on a trail near Big Pine. The Sheriffs Department was called out to the location out of the Baker Creek Campground, where the man had died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Found with no identification, but a key and a pair of glasses, it would take several days for authorities to figure out who the man was.

Coroner Leon Brune reports that officers ran the mans fingerprints, and were able to get a name. Then, along with the help of the Postmistress in Big Pine, officers were able to find the mans address where the key found with the victim fit the lock in the door.

Due to the personal nature of this incident, the name of man, a 54 year old Big Pine resident, is being withheld by request.

This is the third suicide in Inyo and Mono Counties in the past ten days. One man took his own life in Bishop recently, another chose to end his life near Bridgeport.
