The Mammoth Police report that officers cleared several burglary cases off the books with the arrest of 22-year-old Daniel Stewart Rome. Rome is alleged to have stolen property from guests staying at Juniper Springs.
Sgt. Karen Smart says that Rome worked as a bellhop at the Juniper Springs Lodge at the time of his arrest on Friday March 14. Mammoth Mountain Security started the investigation into a string of thefts at the Lodge using electronic data stored in all of the door locks on the guest rooms, according to Sgt. Smart. She explained that Mammoth Mountain Security brought the information to the police, alleging that the rooms were opened by an employee key issued to Rome.

As MLPD continued investigations, Mammoth security officer Richard Thomas placed Rome in custody at the Lodge for allegedly being found in possession of a laptop computer stolen from a guest room, according to Police. Sgt. Smart reports that when police searched Rome’s car, officers turned up an iPod music player allegedly stolen from another room at the Lodge.

Rome was booked on two counts of alleged burglary. Police say that Rome is considered to be the suspect in at least eight other burglary cases.
