Mammoth's Water District officials will look into geothermal heating, a new and very large water tank, plus employee housing.mcwd_board_meeting_7-20-07.jpg

When the Water Board meets next Thursday, May 22nd, officials will discuss and possibly approve a memorandum with the Town of Mammoth and Iceland America Energy on the development of a geothermal heating district. Officials have worked on the memorandum since last month. This idea could eventually lead to actual heating in Mammoth Lakes, fueled by geothermal steam. They do it in Iceland.

Up next Thursday for water officials, discussion and possible award of a contract for construction of the Zone 3 water storage tank. This one million gallon water tank would go in off Old Mammoth Road near the Bluffs subdivision. The idea is an improved water supply system with the ability to meet fire flow demands throughout the community.

With housing prices significantly lower than in recent years, the Water District will explore the possibility of an additional rental unit for employees. More next Thursday.
