The employees of Northern Inyo Healthcare District marked the week leading up to Memorial Day with an in-house fundraiser for local veterans. Hoping to raise $400, the employees once again surpassed expectation and doubled the amount, coming in with $800 in donations.

Employees, collectively known as TEAMNIHD, were invited to honor relatives and friends who served, or who are currently serving, in our military. Employees were given a Salute to Veterans postcard for a donation of $2 per card. The cards spotlighted the honoree’s name, service branch and service dates. Many of the sponsors included a photo of the honoree. Employees then posted the cards on a decorative bulletin board in the hospital’s cafeteria.

The employees also had the chance to show their patriotic spirit by wearing red, white and blue on the Thursday and Friday leading up to the holiday. To participate, employees were asked to donate $2 to the fundraiser.

When asked for comment, NIHD’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kevin Flanigan, was unusually brief: “God bless those who serve, and God Bless our veterans,” he said.

The $800 will be shared equally among Bishop’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8988 and American Legion Post 118, Big Pine’s American Legion Post 457, and the Veterans Helping Veterans organization.
