Edward H. Shelander, Jr., (Ted), died unexpectedly of a heart attack June 10, 2010, in Independence, CA where he lived for almost 10 years. He was born in 1947 in Brunswick, GA, the first child of Edward H. (Sr.) and Hazel Shelander. After graduating from Glynn Academy in 1965, Ted joined the Air Force and served for several years. He attended classes at Brunswick College and went on to receive a Bachelors degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah, Georgia. He was a resident in Glynn County for most of his life.

Ted helped numerous organizations by generously applying his talents and knowledge of computers, electronics, and radio technology. He was an avid Ham radio operator and a very active member in the Masons in both Bishop and Independence lodges. He served on the Inyo County, CA, Grand Jury as foreman pro-tem and was recently elected to serve for the Community Service District of Independence.

He is survived by four siblings: Dee Merriam of Atlanta, GA, Jim of North Fork, CA, and Bill of San Mateo, CA, and Dianna of Sugar Land, TX; and 10 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on July 16, 2009, at Trinity Memorial Church (Locust and Lakeview, Lone Pine, CA) with the Rev. Douglas Buchanan presiding, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm at the Pioneer Cemetery (West Line Rd, Bishop CA). Whitney Funeral Home, 206 East Post St, Lone Pine, CA 93545.
