Tragedy at Twin Lakes near Bridgeport yesterday, as a 13 month old child dies after being struck by a car. Highway Patrol Officers report that the family, from Incline Village, was staying at Annettes Mono Village, the campground at the west end of Twin Lakes when the accident occurred.

The Highway Patrol, the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Fighters, and Mono Sheriff officers responded to the call. When emergency workers arrived on scene they saw that a runaway vehicle, a green GMC Yukon, had struck the baby causing serious head and chest trauma. The child was air lifted to Reno where he died from the injuries.

What happened remains under investigation, but officers report that the vehicle, which belonged to the parents, started rolling for an unknown reason. At rolling speed, the vehicle ran over the 13 month old. A CHP Officer said that it's possible another child had gotten in the car. Officers will also look into the possibility of a mechanical malfunction.
