Last week the Inyo County District Attorney charged four Lone Pine residents for the alleged embezzlement of over $100,000 from the Lone Pine Indian Education Center.

g__donnelly.jpgThe Inyo District Attorneys office reports that former Director Gary Donnelly, bookkeeper Mary Donnelly, bookkeeper/office manager Mary Jefferson, and the assistant to the Director Sara Jefferson, were charged with grand theft by embezzlement and credit card fraud.

Gary Donnelly and Mary Donnelly had been arrested by the time the story ran last week, but warrants were still outstanding for Mary Jefferson and Sara Jefferson. Now officials report that the two have turned themselves in to the authorities.

District Attorney Art Maillet alleges that over a period of six years, the defendants conspired to use credit cards from the Indian Education Center for their personal use. Maillett alleges that the defendants misused credit cards to buy items that had no connection to helping young students with their education endeavors.

Officials report that Mary Jefferson and Sara Jefferson turned themselves in on April 21. They have since been released on their own recognizance.
