The CHP said that a 45-year-old woman from Palmdale was driving her Harley-Davidson southbound on 395 north of South Fish Springs Road. The Scottsdale man was behind her. Officers said that the woman began to slow down and veer off toward the west shoulder of the highway.

The CHP said for some unknown reason, the Ford driver looked away and when he looked back saw the motorcycle slowing down. Officers said the man applied his brakes but could not slow down fast enough to avoid a collision.

The right front of the Ford hit the rear fender of the Harley which overturned onto its left side. The female rider was ejected and struck the roadway. She was transported to Northern Inyo Hospital with major injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
