Local public lands conservation group the Friends of the Inyo is in the running for grant to help fix up the Mt. Whitney Trail. 20 non-profits are in the running for the $5,000 grant from the National Trails Fund.

If the Friends of the Inyo get the grant, the plan is to use the money to maintain and repair the 99 switchbacks on the steep upper portion of the Mt. Whitney trail.
10 of the 20 finalists will receive $5,000 dollars for trails project based on online votes.
