News from the Inyo Courthouse. The Registrar of Voters, who is Clerk Mary Roper, has important information on the upcoming election.voting_machines.jpg

Because the Secretary of State de-certified all computerized voting machines in California, Inyo voters will be voting with paper ballots in the February 5, 2008 Presidential Primary.

The de-certification followed a report from computer scientists who discovered that they could hack into voting computers and alter votes.

To help with a smooth election, Clerk Roper is offering voters a chance to become a permanent absentee voter. That means automatic receipt of a ballot in the mail about 3 weeks before every election. The ballot can be returned by mail or dropped off at the Elections office at the courthouse or at polling places on Election Day.

If you want to become a permanent absentee voter, call the Registrar of Voters at 878-0224. Applications are also available at www.countyofinyo.org .
