Friday, Oct. 18

The Metabolic Studio’s One Hundred Mules Walking the Los Angeles Aqueduct parade/performance will begin on Friday, Oct. 18, at the LA Aqueduct Intake, at Aberdeen Station Road, about 10 miles north of Independence. The event will start around 10:30 a.m. with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power unveiling a plaque commemorating the 100thanniversary of the opening of the Intake and the LA Aqueduct. At about 11 a.m. the 100 mule caravan will begin its 240-mile, 27 day journey down the length of the LA Aqueduct. The public is invited.

Saturday, Oct. 19

The Eastern California Museum and the Metabolic Studio will host, “Eden Interrupted,” a talk on the impact of the LA Aqueduct on Owens Valley agriculture, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. The free event will be held at the Independence American Legion Hall, at the corner of U.S. 395 and Kearsage St. Call 760-878-0258 for more information.

The public is invited to a Community Potluck and Harvest Celebration starting at 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Eastern California Museum, 155 N. Grant St., Independence. Bring a dish to share and meet some of the folks creating the 100 Mules Walking the Los Angeles Aqueduct event. Call 760-878-0258 for more information.

Sunday, Oct. 20

Mules and Movies in Lone Pine. The Echo Park Film Center mobile film bus will be in town starting at noon, Sunday, Oct. 20, and will invite the public to contribute content and watershedcomments on its work in progress, “Where Does Your Water Come From.”

At 2 p.m. the Lone Pine Film History Museum will host a screening of the documentary film, “Watershed,” sponsored by the Eastern California Museum and the Metabolic Studio. Associate Producer Forrest Pound, an Owens Valley Native, will be on hand for a Q&A after the film.

The Metabolic Studio’s One Hundred Mules Walking the Los Angeles Aqueduct will arrive at the Lone Pine Rodeo Grounds at about 4 p.m. to a “Community Welcome” hosted by the American Mule Museum of Bishop.

At 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20, the spotlight will be squarely on Dolly the Power Mule who is carrying solar panels that generate power and light, and her companions carrying an art studio, library and archives and other aspects of the 100 Mules Walking the LA Aqueduct’s “urban form.” The discussion of this experimental aspect of the mule march will take place at the Metabolic Studio IOU Garden, at Willow and Main Streets, in Lone Pine.
