Just after noon Wednesday, fire fighters across the Eastern Sierra were called out to a wildfire near Benton Hot Springs that had started as a controlled burn on the Bramlette Ranch.

Fire fighters from the Forest Service, BLM, CalFire, the White Mountain Volunteers, Chalfant Volunteers, and the Bishop Volunteers, responded to the blaze. On scene across from the Benton Hot Springs Resort, the fire was being pushed by the wind north toward Highway 120 East, and the structures near the historic Hot Springs.

Firefighters could be seen across the large meadow working to contain the flames burning through brush and grass. Forest Service officials said that the fire was entirely on private land. The fire was about 25 acres in size and slowly spreading, but firefighters worked to hold the fire at the highway.

It appears that the historic buildings at Benton Station were not in any danger as Forest Service officials reported that no structures were threatened. At last word crews were working on mop up operations.
