National Weather Service Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 4:00 pm Monday, February 25 to 4:00am Thursday, February 28, 2019.

Three-day total snow accumulations of up to 12 inches, except 2 to 4 feet above 7,000 feet is forecast. Winds gusting as high as 70 mph with gusts over 140 mph for the Sierra ridges. Worst windows for snow and travel is Monday night and Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. Periods of white-out conditions are possible making travel difficult to impossible during peak snow and wind periods.

The Town advises residents and visitors to be prepared by listening to KMMT 106.5 or Sierra Wave 92.5 for chain restrictions, road closures or shelter openings.

U.S. HWY 395 CLOSED (as of 2:15 pm)

MONO COUNTY– The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced the closure of U.S. Hwy 395 from the junctionof State Route 167 to State Route 182, just south of Bridgeport, due to several vehicle collisions and an over turned diesel truck due toheavy snow and whiteout conditions.  Caltrans and CHP will continually reassess conditions for reopening. Please use State Route 167 or State Route 182 as alternative routes.

Winter Driving Tips

Caltrans reminds drivers, when driving in winter conditions, to always carry chains. Keep a full tank of gas, carry blankets, water, food, a shovel, gloves, a flashlight, and sand or kitty litter to provide traction in case your vehicle becomes stuck. The traveling public is advised to drastically slow down and proceed with caution.
